Familly
p.2021
This ongoing photographic series began as a response to a significant period of change within Ellis Bairstow's family. Following the challenges of the COVID-19 lockdowns, his parents made the decision to relocate back to his mother's home city of Glasgow. The series serves as a visual exploration of these transitions, capturing moments of flux and adaptation.
The work is deliberately open-ended, reflecting the evolving nature of family dynamics and the continual shifts that accompany major life changes. Rather than having a definitive conclusion, the series will grow and adapt over time, paralleling the personal and familial transformations it seeks to document.
Ellis uses 5x4 black and white film to create the images in this series, a choice that adds a timeless, reflective quality to the work. The large format film allows for high detail and careful composition, enhancing the emotional depth and introspective nature of the series. Through this project, Ellis continues to blend his documentary approach with deeply personal themes, creating a body of work that is both intimate and universal.
